What is occupational therapy and how can it help me?

Occupational Therapy at MCC Therapies helps children build the skills they need for daily life through a clinical, strengths‑based, and neurodiversity‑affirming approach. We support children and teens with sensory processing, motor development, emotional regulation, self‑care, and participation at home, school, and in the community. Our services are child‑led and family‑centered, focusing on meaningful routines and real‑life goals that matter to your family. Whether your child needs help navigating sensory experiences, building motor skills, developing coping tools, or increasing independence, OT provides individualized, evidence‑based support designed to help them thrive.

Occupational Therapy is a clinical service regulated by Ohio licensure. Occupational Therapy (OT) is separate from coaching and follows all state laws, documentation requirements, and professional standards.

Who are we?

  • With over a decade of pediatric experience, MCC Therapies, LLC. brings advanced clinical training and a deep commitment to neurodiversity‑affirming care. Our therapist is a Licensed Occupational Therapist in Ohio, an Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist, and a Certified Autism Specialist, with extensive background supporting sensory processing, regulation, motor development, and participation across home, school, and community settings.

As the Founder and Lead OT at MCC Therapies, she combines evidence‑based practice with a warm, family‑centered approach to help children build meaningful skills and thrive in their daily lives.

  • We provide Occupational Therapy to children and individuals with developmental disabilities, including students who receive JPSN services through their IEP.

OT sessions are offered in the community with virtual options available when clinically appropriate.

As a licensed Ohio provider, we serve families across Ashtabula County and surrounding areas, supporting meaningful participation in daily routines wherever your child learns, plays, and grows.

  • Our Occupational Therapy process begins with a comprehensive evaluation that looks at your child’s strengths, daily routines, and areas where support is needed.

From there, we create an individualized treatment plan with meaningful, measurable goals developed in collaboration with your family. Ongoing therapy sessions are play‑based, functional, and tailored to your child’s unique needs, focusing on building skills that support participation at home, school, and in the community.

We provide regular progress updates and adjust goals as your child grows, develops new skills, or encounters new challenges, ensuring therapy remains responsive, relevant, and aligned with your child’s evolving needs.

Each session includes practical strategies you can use between visits to help your child continue making progress in real‑life routines.

  • MCC Therapies uses SimplePractice, a secure, HIPAA‑compliant electronic health record (EHR) system, to manage all Occupational Therapy documentation, communication, and scheduling. SimplePractice meets the privacy and security requirements outlined in HIPAA, the Ohio Occupational Therapy Practice Act, the Ohio Revised Code, and ODEW guidelines for students receiving services through programs such as the Jon Peterson Special Needs (JPSN) Scholarship. All clinical messaging, session notes, evaluations, progress reports, and documents are stored within the OT portal to ensure that every interaction remains confidential, traceable, and compliant with state and federal regulations.

To protect your child’s information and maintain clear separation between clinical OT and non‑clinical coaching, all communication related to Occupational Therapy must occur through the SimplePractice portal. This includes messaging, document sharing, scheduling, and accessing reports. Using the portal ensures that every piece of information is securely encrypted, properly documented, and maintained according to Ohio’s professional standards.

As required by Ohio law and professional OT regulations, clinical records must be retained for a minimum of six (6) years from the date of the last service, or longer when required for minors. For children, records are kept until the child reaches age 19, whichever period is longer. SimplePractice allows us to securely store, protect, and manage these records throughout the entire retention period.

  • Your child’s first Occupational Therapy visit is a comprehensive evaluation designed to help us understand their strengths, needs, and daily routines. During this appointment, we review your completed intake forms, discuss relevant medical documentation, and look at recent therapy reports or diagnoses you choose to share. The evaluation includes a review of body systems, functional skills, and areas of concern, along with a collaborative conversation about your family’s goals. Together, we identify priorities and begin shaping an individualized treatment plan that reflects your child’s unique needs.

Please bring any medical records, diagnostic reports, or previous therapy documentation that may support the evaluation process. The appointment typically lasts about 60 minutes.

After the evaluation, results and recommendations are shared through your secure SimplePractice portal. You’ll receive a notification when your evaluation is complete, along with access to all documents.

Follow‑up scheduling also occurs through the portal, ensuring that all communication, documentation, and next steps remain organized, secure, and fully compliant with Ohio OT practice standards.

What payment methods are accepted?

MCC Therapies offers several payment options to support families in accessing high‑quality, individualized Occupational Therapy. We currently accept private pay and the Jon Peterson Special Needs (JPSN) Scholarship for eligible students receiving services through their IEP. All OT billing, invoices, and documentation are managed securely through SimplePractice to ensure compliance with HIPAA, the Ohio Occupational Therapy Practice Act, the Ohio Revised Code, and ODEW requirements.

Limited financial-need accommodations may be available upon request.

We are also actively working toward establishing contracts with select Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to expand access for Medicaid‑insured families in our community. Until those contracts are finalized, services for Medicaid‑insured clients are available through private pay or JPSN (when applicable).
