MCC Foundation Mission
To support neurodivergent individuals and their families across Ashtabula County by expanding access to neurodiversity‑affirming resources, education, community programs, and inclusive opportunities that promote growth, independence, and well‑being.
MCC Foundation Vision
A community where every neurodivergent child, teen, and adult has equitable access to supportive services, inclusive environments, and opportunities to thrive—regardless of income, diagnosis, or location.
The MCC Foundation explicitly aligns its mission and visions to support those of MCC Therapies, LLC. Please check out our LLC services below.
The MCC Community Foundation matters because Ashtabula County faces high poverty, high uninsured rates, significant disability prevalence, and one of the lowest provider‑to‑population ratios in Ohio. By funding therapy, coaching, community education, and accessibility initiatives, the Foundation directly addresses the county’s most urgent gaps—ensuring neurodivergent individuals and families receive the support they need to thrive.
Ashtabula County is home to 96,713 residents in 2025 , including 17,474 residents in Ashtabula City . Yet the region faces significant barriers in healthcare access, disability support, and neurodiversity‑affirming services.
Severe Provider Shortages
Ashtabula County has 29 primary care providers per 100,000 residents, far below the national average of 82 . Occupational therapy access is even more limited: public directories show approximately 20 practicing occupational therapists in Ashtabula County, based on aggregated listings from multiple healthcare directories . For a county of nearly 97,000 people, this represents a critical shortage.
High Uninsured Rate
Ashtabula County’s uninsured rate is 10.3%—higher than both the state and national averages . In Ashtabula City, the uninsured rate is even worse at 13.6% . This means thousands of residents cannot access therapy, coaching, or developmental services
Poverty & Economic Barriers
Countywide, 15.2% of residents live below the poverty line . In Ashtabula City, poverty is dramatically higher at 29.77% . Families living in poverty are the least able to afford therapy, adaptive equipment, or neurodiversity‑affirming support.
High Disability Rates
Ashtabula City reports 19.6% of residents under age 65 living with a disability —nearly 1 in 5 people. Countywide disability rates are also elevated at 13.4%
Why this foundation matters
How the MCC Community Foundation Helps Close These Gaps
Expanding Access to Therapy
With only ~20 OTs serving the entire county, many families face long waitlists or no access at all. The Foundation provides scholarships for therapy sessions, helping uninsured and low‑income families receive essential care.
Reducing Financial Barriers
With poverty rates as high as 29.77% in Ashtabula City, even one therapy session can be out of reach. Foundation donations directly fund:
therapy sessions
caregiver coaching
adaptive equipment
sensory tools
Supporting Uninsured & Underinsured Families
With 10–13% of residents lacking insurance, the Foundation fills the gap by offering low‑cost or sponsored services.
Bringing Services to Rural & Underserved Areas
Many rural communities in Ashtabula County have no local providers. The Foundation’s mobile and community‑based programs ensure families can access support close to home.
Providing Community Education & Advocacy
High disability rates and low provider availability mean families often lack guidance. The Foundation offers:
workshops
sensory‑friendly events
advocacy support
caregiver training
These programs empower families and reduce long‑term disparities.
